Archie Anderson Park in Longview, Washington Commits to Health!

We love that July is Park and Recreation Month, and thought it was the perfect opportunity to share a fun event held in Longview, Washington, that was actually posted on our Facebook page last month.

On Thursday June 26th, Super Heroes came together and provided a Summer Meals kick-off celebration for families at Archie Anderson Park in Longview, Washington. Thanks to our local Walmart store and employees, 200 chicken and veggie kabobs were barbecued and served, in addition to a green leafy salad with homemade vinaigrette (compliments of Lower Columbia School Gardens, who also gave away tomato plants). Bananas, Little Cuties (tangerines), and water were also distributed. Longview Recreation Super Hero staff member, “Protein Protector” (aka Vinnie on the beat box), and his band provided live music. Home Depot brought lots of volunteers and built kits, firemen and policemen came to visit, and Habitat for Humanity painted faces. Last but not least John, our OrganWise Guy, played the sugar game, which teaches kids the content of sugar in their “favorite” drinks. This indeed was a very successful kick-off celebration for our summer meals program. Our Super Hero staff along with our amazing partners and volunteers are serious about our pledge of Committing to Health in our community!
