Broccoli is tasty on its own, but it is extra delicious when added to whole wheat pasta dishes. What better way to get this cruciferous vegetable, a January Foods of the Month, into your diet than with these fast and easy pasta ideas?! Read on for our tips on adding broccoli to pasta.

Quick and Easy Garlic Broccoli Pasta – Cook whole wheat penne and set aside. Cut 1 head of broccoli into florets and steam in the microwave (put 3 tbsp. water in a microwave safe bowl, add florets, cover, and cook for 3 minutes, until tender). Sautee 3 minced garlic cloves in extra virgin olive oil. Mix broccoli, pasta, and garlic together and serve with Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper.

Turkey Sausage and Broccoli Pasta – Cook your favorite whole wheat pasta according to directions and set aside. Meanwhile, add turkey sausage to the stove top and cook on medium high heat, breaking it up with a spoon until it’s thoroughly cooked. Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 more minute. Add 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth, and 1 bunch broccoli rabe to the stove, and cook for 3-4 minutes, until the broth begins to simmer. Add pasta and serve with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

Lemon Broccoli Pasta with Chicken – Cook whole wheat pasta and set aside. Meanwhile, use your stovetop to cook 2 large chicken breasts, seasoning with lemon juice, salt and pepper. Shred chicken and set aside. Using the same pan as you cooked the chicken, sautee 2 garlic cloves in extra virgin olive oil. Add 1 head of broccoli florets, 1 cup low sodium chicken broth, and simmer for 10 minutes. Mix broccoli, chicken and pasta together with the juice and zest of 1 lemon.Broccoli-Pasta
