How to Eat More Stone Fruits

Summer is the best time of the year to enjoy stone fruits like peaches, plums, apricots and nectarines. Stone fruits also happen to be an August Foods of the Month (FoM)! Are you in a stone fruit rut and need some ideas for how to cook with these deliciously healthy fruits? We are glad you are reading this blog because The OrganWise Guys have been gathering some awesome tips just for you!

Peach Hot Dog – Summer also means grilling time, so you will probably have a hot dog or two (low-fat, low-sodium turkey dogs or veggie dogs on whole wheat buns of course!). Although a little unexpected, the combination of peaches and hot dogs is truly tasty. Cut up one peach and mix it with a cut up jalapeno (if you like spice), cilantro, lemon juice and salt and pepper. Put a generous serving on top of each hot dog and enjoy.7822925964_7bcc90401d

Nectarine Salad – Instead of the typical fruit toppings for your favorite salad, try nectarines! These tasty fruits taste wonderful on top of a spinach salad, with some goat cheese, sliced almonds, and a little vinaigrette dressing.

Whole Wheat Peach Muffins – Add one cut up peach to your favorite whole wheat muffin recipe, yum!

Pluot Salsa – Instead of a regular tomato salsa, try a pluot salsa. Mix with onions, peppers, a little lime juice and cilantro. This is also a tasty topping for fish. In case you’re wondering, a pluot is a cross between a plum and an apricot.
