OrganWise Guys Clinic Kit

The OrganWise Guys Clinic Kit is designed to engage clinic staff like doctors, nurses and health educators in nutrition and healthy living activities to prevent childhood obesity. We love sharing stories with our audience on how these materials are used, and love it when we hear from you!

Recently, Dr. Brandi Lambert from Mississippi, reached out to us to share how she uses the materials in The OrganWise Guys (OWG) Clinic Kit to educate children in her community. She received this kit of materials thanks to funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Some of the biggest takeaways from her project include the following:

  • Educate Adults – Although The OrganWise Guys Clinic Kit materials are designed for children, adults benefit from them as well. Dr. Lambert found that when her afterschool nutrition education program, which was designed for children, was advertised in her community, parents and adults came forward to initiate discussions on healthy eating and nutrition with project staff.
  • Involve Food – When possible, adding healthy food tastings or cooking demonstrations to your OWG lessons is a wonderful enhancement. Not only does this allow children to try new foods, but it also increases education and awareness on healthy food options that are available to them.

  • Use Free Resources – The OWG Kid’s Page has an abundance of free resources on nutrition and health for children and families. This is a great resource to refer parents and children to if they are curious about ways to continue nutrition education at home.
