A Toast to Whole Grains

Hello Fellow OrganWise Guys Members,

Did you know that September is Whole Grains Month? Well, if you didn’t, now you do! Whole grains are an important part of your healthy diet. These grains are a good source of fiber, protein, vitamin B, and much more! That’s why I am sure to include some delicious peanut butter toast made with whole grain bread in my breakfast. Oh, and you should, too! While you have whole grains on your mind, download the coloring sheet and activity sheet for today!

Summertime Blues

Hello fellow OrganWise Guys Club Members,

School is officially over and summer vacation is here, and now I can’t help but experience the summertime blues. Don’t feel bad for me though, the summertime blues aren’t a bad thing, they’re fantastic! When I say I’m experiencing the “summertime blues,” I’m having a blast. I’m playing outside under the bright blue sky! I’m jumping in the clear blue water of the neighborhood pool! I’m eating some blueberries at a park picnic! I’m roller-skating on the dark blue pavement of my cul-de-sac! These are what I like to call the “summertime blues!” I hope you’re experiencing the summertime blues as well. If not, what are you waiting for? Get out there! Make sure and get your coloring sheet for today!OWG_Blog_Art_6-2-14

Don't Forget the Foods of the Month

Hello Fellow OrganWise Guys Club Members,

As a Club Member, I’m sure you all keep up with the Foods of Month like I do. And, like me, I’m sure sometimes you decide to skip out on it for the day. Then that day becomes a week and then you realize the month is almost over and you haven’t really eaten them! I hate to admit it, but that has happened to me before. So this year, I’m really working hard to make sure I eat each of the Foods of the Month ten times each month! That may sound like a lot, but think about it: there are about 30 days in a month, and you eat 3 meals a day, so that’s 90 meals each month. Choosing these nutrient-dense foods ten times is only ten percent of my meals. I can do that! In fact, if things go well, I’ll increase the number of times I eat it each month. This month’s Foods of the Month are Legumes (such as beans and peas) and Cruciferous Vegetables (such as broccoli and cauliflower). You should eat some, too!OWG_Blog_Art_1-17-13

Project Healthy Living

Hello fellow OrganWise Guys Club Members,

I hope you all have been having a good time this holiday season. I know I have. The one thing that has been not so good, however, is my eating habits recently. While the holidays are a time for fun and excitement, that fun and excitement usually involves lots of cookies and candy. For me, it definitely meant lots of cookies and candy!  Sometimes, I even found myself going back for a third or fourth cookie even when I was full! I just thought, “It’s the holidays, this is what you do!” Well, I can now say I wish I did not eat all the cookies and candy. I just ate too much of it, and have been feeling tired this whole winter break. So I’m not going to wait for the New Year, I’m going to get back on track today. Project Healthy Living starts now! That means fruit, veggies, water, exercise, and fun will all be a part of my life again! Join me! Don’t wait to get healthy, get healthy today!OWG_Blog_Art_12-27-12

Write It Down

Hello Fellow OrganWise Guys Club Members,

See the title of my blog this week? Well take note (literally). Today, I walked into school, feeling great after a fun weekend full of family, friends, and exercise, butthat good feeling stopped when I entered my classroom. I looked around and everyone had posters on their desks. That’s when I realized our book report presentations were due today! I completely forgot! Recently, I stopped writing my homework down in my agenda because I could remember my homework. How about the other kids? They just weren’t as smart as me, I figured. Who’s the smart one now? Everyone else, it seems. You can bet that I wrote down my homework at the end of the day. I will probably remember it and not have to look at my agenda, but it’s much better to be safe than being close to tears as you talk to your teacher about how you forgot that your book report was due today. Trust me on this one, and write down your work in your agenda!

Until we meet again,
Pepto
