In 2012, thanks to funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, high schoolers in the local Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club received an OWG Healthy Incentives Project mini grant for materials to do health education community outreach with young children. The HOSA students created a teaching project with these materials designed for elementary schools. Additional supplies were donated by the local hospital, McLaren Bay Region, that were distributed to the elementary students following the presentation. Items included bottled water, hand sanitizer, coloring books, crayons and pencils. The project was such a hit that Mallory and Maranda (the two high school students pictured on the right) took the gold medal at the HOSA competitive event and are headed to their state competition in April! We love seeing creative work like this.

The health technology high school students also paired up with the Children’s Medical Group of Saginaw Bay to feature a St. Patrick’s Day float in their local parade, highlighting healthy lifestyles. Way to go!CMG-Saginaw-Bay-HOSA-Project-2
