Sometimes it’s hard to imagine that we’re really making a difference in the fight against childhood obesity. We hear report after report telling us all the “bad stuff.” For those of us working diligently to see a change in the tide, we can have moments of discouragement. Fortunately, thanks to the HOPE2 grant from the W.K Kellogg Foundation, we were recently reminded that all of our hard work does make a difference! Specifically, we collected stories from schools in Collier County, Florida to add to our year-end report and we thought we’d share them with you. We hope you’re encouraged as well as you read just a few of the stories coming out of those amazing schools:
Talk about synergy in Miami! The Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Florida funded two wonderful grants in early childhood centers in Miami; one for nutrition education and one to start gardens. We’re so excited to see kids being empowered to make healthy choices so early in life! Watch the video to find out more:
We were honored to have the opportunity to visit with the newly formed Bipartisan Policy Center’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Initiative as they kicked off their nationwide tour in Miami, FL. Their first stop was Kinder Kollege, a child care center that is part of a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-funded nutrition study led by researchers at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The OrganWise Guys program is the centerpiece of this study’s interventions. You can read more about the visit here!
