OrganWise Costumes for Halloween

It’s always fun to see the original and innovative costumes that come about during Halloween, but nothing makes us more giddy than seeing people dressed up as The OrganWise Guys! Over the years, we have received pictures from some of our fabulous educators who take creativity to the next level by dressing up as “the Guys” or even dressing up the OrganWise dolls. We thought it would be fun to share these unique ways they have brought the organs to life in case you get an itch to play OrganWise dress up yourself this Halloween.

Calorie Reductions in the Grocery Aisles

As a partner of the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation (HWCF), we’ve joined forces with the nation’s leading food and beverage companies to help fight childhood obesity. In 2009, HWCF member companies made a commitment to reduce calories in the marketplace as part of their mission to reduce childhood obesity. We’re proud to report that HWCF member companies have sold 6.4 trillion fewer calories in the U.S. in 2012 than they did in 2007, as confirmed in the findings of an independent evaluation by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The change in the overall caloric footprint of the 16 HWCF member companies is impressive. Together, they far exceeded their original 1.5 trillion calorie goal, several years ahead of their target date. At a reduction of approximately 78 calories per person, per day, non-HWCF national food brands and private labels in comparison each only cut 11 calories per day over the same period. Of the 6.4 trillion calories HWCF removed, member companies saw large reductions in calories from across all food groups:

  • Sweets and snacks (-21 calories)
  • Grain products (-17 calories)
  • Fats, oils, sauces, condiments (-15 calories)
  • Beverages (-14 calories)

These calorie reductions include products across the spectrum of foods in our grocery aisles, resulting in reduction of calories in our grocery baskets each week. Such victories are applauded and members of HWCF continue to do their part to help families reduce calories at home.
