Tomato, 'Tomahto'

Hi there,

Since it is National Fruits and Veggies Month, I thought I’d clear up some tomato-related confusion. The tomato, which is one of September’s Foods of the Month, has been called both a fruit and a vegetable, for all sorts of reasons. “It has seeds, it’s a fruit!” “We eat as a side for dinner, it’s not sweet, it’s a vegetable!” I’m here to tell you, it’s a fruit! Yes, it does have a much lower sugar content than other fruits, which is why it tastes more like a vegetable. Either way, be sure to eat plenty of tomatoes this month! After all, it is Fruit and Veggies month, so no matter what you think, tomatoes are a safe bet! Get this fun tomato-themed coloring sheet today!

Center Stage

Hi there!

Yesterday, a few of my friends went to a concert of our favorite artist, but I didn’t go. They invited me, but my parents said the tickets were too expensive. Last night, while all of my friends were at the concert, my parents had a surprise for me. They bought me the DVD from a previous concert, so we all watched it together on our big screen TV! It wasn’t the same as being there, but it was almost better. I didn’t have to wait in line for the restroom, I could eat whatever I wanted, and I was the only person singing along to the songs, so it was like we were singing a duet! You can bet I was singing as loud as my lungs would let me, which my parents loved. They really liked the show I put on AND the fact that I tired myself out. I mean, with all my singing and dancing, I barely made it upstairs to bed because I was so tired. So eventhough I didn’t make the concert, I sure was happy since I got to put on one of my own. 🙂 Make sure and download your coloring and activity  sheets for today!

You're My Best Friend

Hi there,

Sunday is Best Friend Day, which is a day to simply appreciate your best friend. It’s a really great idea, but the problem is I don’t have just one best friend … I have ten! How could I choose ONE OrganWise Guy over the other? Each one of them is so important to me. Madame Muscle keeps me strong, Sir Rebrum keeps me thinking, and The Kidney Brothers are always making sure I’m drinking plenty of water. I also must mention the fun we all have together! So I’m writing them all letters to tell them that they are each my best friend and very special to me. It may seem like I’m being a softie by not choosing, but I just have too big of a heart. Oh, and he’s one of my ten best friend! Make sure and get your “friend-themed” activity sheet and coloring sheet for today!OWG_Blog_Art_6-5-14

Birthday Party Blunder?

Hi there,

Looking back on this school year, I certainly learned a lot. However, the biggest lesson I learned wasn’t in the classroom. This year, my parents said I could invite my entire class to my birthday party. I quickly filled out the invitations to pass out the next day in class. As I was talking to my friends about it the next day, they told me not to invite one of our classmates. They said that he got on their nerves and didn’t want him there. I had noticed that he didn’t always fit in with everyone, but would I really invite my entire class to my birthday except him? My friends would be mad, but I would hurt his feelings. I decided to invite him with the rest of the class. He was so excited to be invited that he was the first to arrive at my party that weekend, and he was actually a blast! He started a conga line, sang the loudest during “Happy Birthday,” and my parents said he thanked them twice for having him over. He was the perfect guest and a ton of fun. It taught me that when faced with excluding one person or including everyone, I’ll always make sure to include everyone if I can. Get your fun coloring sheet  and activity sheet for today!

Kids Teaching Kids

Hi there,

Today was Take Your Daughter to Work Day. Some of my classmates went with their parents to their jobs, and many teachers brought their own kids to work. My teacher brought her three-year-old daughter, Josie, today. It was so much fun! During recess, several of us played with Josie on the swings and jungle gym. She was so smart and well behaved. While I was practicing counting with her, she made me think of something. We learn everything in stages. For Josie, counting to ten is quite the accomplishment. It was for all of us at one time as well! But now, we are learning our multiplication tables and long division, and there are times when it seems like the hardest thing in the world. But, then again, so was counting to ten. Watching Josie reminded me that I need to take a deep breath and remember that I’m not going to always understand everything perfectly the first time I learn it. It takes practice and time, just like when I was a little kid learning to count. Oh, make sure and get your coloring sheet and activity sheet for today!
