Dried Apple Chips

Dried apple chips are a fun way to eat apples, an October Foods of the Month. You can use any type of apple you want, and the only other ingredient you need is a sprinkle of cinnamon if you want to make your chips a little more fancy. These chips are really easy to make; follow the instructions below for a step-by-step outline to making your own apple chips. (As a side note: one of the best things about these chips is enjoying the delicious apple smell that comes from your oven while they are drying!)

Step 1: Set your oven to 200 degrees.

Step 2: Core an apple (removing the center), and slice it into VERY thin slices. Get an adult to help you slice!

Step 3: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place your apple slices on the paper. Sprinkle with cinnamon if you like. Then place the apples in the oven.

Step 4: After one hour of cooking, remove the baking sheet from the oven and turn over the apple slices. Sprinkle with more cinnamon if you like. Place the apples back into the oven to continue drying for one more hour.

Step 5: Apples are finished drying when they are crunchy and the ends start to curl up. Remove you apples from the oven when they are finished. Enjoy this yummy fall tasting snack on a cool day!
