Acreage Pines Elementary School in Palm Beach County, FL is kicking off The OrganWise Guys program this fall thanks to generous funding from the Good Samaritan Medical Center! This unique school is the first elementary biomedical academy in the state of Florida. OWG materials will be used by teachers and students to enhance the current core curriculum while also putting a special emphasis on learning about our body’s organs and how we can take care of them through good nutrition and healthy eating.
We love seeing the great nutrition and healthy living education work that takes place around the country. This month, we feature St. James Children’s Center, a preschool for children 2-5 years old in the Florida Keys. Ms. Brynn Morey, Florida Keys Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program Manager, shared these photos with us of students learning about the Foods of the Month (FoM). Thanks to funding from the Florida Blue Foundation, St. James Children’s Center received OWG materials, trainings, and technical assistance from Ms. Morey. (more…)
The OrganWise Guys have been having lots of fun in Collier County, Florida! In January, Collier County Extension Services hosted their annual Agventures, and the OWG dolls had to make an appearance. This is the third year in a row where the dolls have hung out at Agventures and each time they come wearing their Western gear.
The OrganWise Guys Foods of the Month (FoM) Club has made its way into some of the largest grocery stores in the Florida Keys – Winn Dixie. Thanks to a grant from the Florida Blue Foundation to the Florida Keys Area Health Education Center (AHEC), this grocery store-public health agency collaboration exemplifies the power of consistent messaging to improve the health of Floridians in places where people shop frequently!
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Foundation recently funded another great grant to help the Florida Keys Area Health Education Center expand their OrganWise Guys programming!
