Citrus is a December Foods of the Month! In honor of all things citrus, we are featuring an incredibly easy way to use these fruits when cooking your next meal. Did you know that you can dry lemons like you would with other fruits (like apples, bananas etc.)? It’s so easy too. All you need to do is thinly slice a lemon into rounds, then bake in the oven at 180 degrees for about 5 hours until they are completely dried out.
How do you use these dried citrus fruits once you’ve finished? Dried lemons are great to have on hand in the kitchen because they are easy to throw into marinades, pastas, tea, or add to baked chicken to provide extra flavor with no added fat. Dried lemons retain much of the same nutrition as fresh lemons, including all that Vitamin C that citrus fruits are famous for. Be warned though – even though dried lemons look smaller than fresh lemon rounds, they are still sour tastings so treat them as you would a fresh lemon when cooking!
