When my kids were younger, a trip to the pumpkin patch, the costume store and the grocery store to pick out the favorite candy were always favorite pre-Halloween activities. Trying to keep “OrganWise” during this festive time of the year (with other holidays to follow) was challenging.

Bags full of trick-or-treats that entered the Green household equaled extra pounds. So to control the sugar intake for both kids (and mommy), I let the kids pick out some of their favorite bite-sized treats and the rest was left out for the Great Pumpkin to take to kids that didn’t have Halloween candy. So one evening later, candy bags were left and a different type of treat was left in the candy’s place; a box of crayons, temporary tattoos, or something small from the dollar store.
My kids are teenagers now, and the Great Pumpkin no longer visits. So, I want to share an alternative that we employ that will make Hardy Heart and Sir Rebrum proud. Operation Gratitude sends candy to U.S. Military deployed all around the world. Visit http://www.halloweencandybuyback.com to get more information about donating your extra candy.
Remember, to send “the good stuff” – no crushed/melted candy or broken/torn wrappers. Also, stores offer a lot of discounts on candy after October 31st too if you want to ‘sweeten’ the deal for ourt troops!
