Acreage Pines Elementary School in Palm Beach County, FL is kicking off The OrganWise Guys program this fall thanks to generous funding from the Good Samaritan Medical Center! This unique school is the first elementary biomedical academy in the state of Florida. OWG materials will be used by teachers and students to enhance the current core curriculum while also putting a special emphasis on learning about our body’s organs and how we can take care of them through good nutrition and healthy eating.
PreK-5th grade teachers were trained this October on how to use the materials with their students. We were so excited to meet this enthusiastic staff and are looking forward to hearing about the great work they will do!
We loved meeting second grader teacher, Ms. Christie LaVigna, and seeing her classroom. She shared a wonderful hands-on activity to enhance her MyPlate lesson. First, students learned about MyPlate and how it relates to nutrition.
Next, students created their own MyPlate t-shirts. Then, by using felt and Velcro, Ms. LaVigna created healthy fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy and grain items to add onto the shirts.
The final product is an excellent nutrition education tool that is definitely OrganWise.
Great job to all the teachers and staff members at this special school!
