February is a favorite for The OrganWise Guys! Hardy Heart is the star of the show with all the focus on him between Valentine’s Day, Random Acts of Kindness Week, and American Heart Month! Here are a few of our favorite ideas for incorporating him into your educational setting this month!
- Pull out your books that focus on heart health and read them during story time. For the younger kids (k-2) All Hearts Need Love is a great book and for the older kids (3rd-5th) read The Healthy Heart Challenge book. You can have the older kids read it out loud during reading time instead of reading it to them.
- Use your plush Hardy as a reward. If you eat lunch in your classroom, allow him to sit on the desk of a child who has a heart-healthy lunch (look for low-fat options like turkey breast, carrots instead of chips, fruit, etc.)
- Split a pack of Hardy tattoos with the other teachers in your school. They come in packs of 100 and are a fun Valentine’s Day treat from the teacher!
- During art, have your students make a Valentine’s Card for their favorite OrganWise Guy writing why they love that particular one. For example, “I love my Calci because she helps me run and play.”
- Work with your school to provide a fun, Hardy-approved Valentine’s Day treat! One idea would be strawberry and banana fruit kabobs with greek yogurt for the dip!
- When you do your daily WISERCISE, teach your children how to feel their pulse. Remind them that their Hardy is very happy to get moving every day!
- Challenge your class to participate in Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 11-17). Have each student draw the name of another student in the class and do a Random Act of Kindness for that person. Give them simple examples such as throw away that person’s trash at lunch, leave a nice note on their desk, ask them to play at recess, etc.
