Dream in Green – a Miami, FL Nonprofit

During our travels, we got to learn more about Dream in Green, a non-profit organization located in Miami, Florida. We met Karla Utting, Operations Manager, at the Green Schools National Conference in West Palm Beach, FL this February and she was the lucky winner of The OrganWise Guys Gardening Kit and Signs! She will be donating her gift to the Green Schools Challenge Green Team winners at the end of year Awards Ceremony in May 2013. The award category will be announced on the day of the event. It was great learning more about Dream in Green and how they contribute to healthy school environments in Florida!images

Dream in Green programs promote education and behavior change around taking care of our environment. The Green Schools Challenge is Dream in Green’s flagship program currently in its seventh year, serving over 160,000 K-12 students, teachers and staff in Miami-Dade County, which is the fourth largest school district in the nation. During the first six years of the program, participating students saved $4.5 million in energy costs and conserved 9.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity through simple initiatives like turning off lights and unplugging electronics. Combined with other green projects like planting trees and recycling, the program has helped to reduce or offset approximately 22.5 million pounds of carbon emissions.
