We would like to give a big shout out to the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), the Walmart Foundation, and the Kansas Health Foundation. Thanks to their funding, summer camps around the country received The OrganWise Guys materials as part of a summer time health initiative in 2012. We were so excited to hear about the great work that happened in these summer camps that we want to share the report with you!
The report (click here to view) from the NRPA is titled Promoting Healthy Kids: The Serving Kansas Case Study. It describes the successes of the summer pilot program in five Kansas communities from last summer. In addition to using OWG to teach children about nutrition and healthy living, activities also included growing gardens, serving more meals, and offering trasportation to children to access these healthy meals and activities. Read this report to learn more about the diverse strategies used to implement these healthy summer activities in Kansas, as well as the lessons learned from these innovative camps!
