My name is Kelly Baas and I am a kindergarten teacher at Kenwood Elementary. I have 29 students in my classroom. This is the first year that we have used The OrganWise Guys. My students LOVE this curriculum. We have Ms. Deb, who is from Michigan State University, visit our room once a week for a ½ hour. The students look forward to her visit with “Morgan” (our OWG doll) and the The OrganWise Guys crew. Students always talk about how “they need to click on their cerebrum,” “my hardy heart is beating fast because I exercised,” or “I need to give my Kidney Brothers some water!”
I love this program and would love the opportunity to use it my classroom every year. It is a great way to teach children about their body and how important it is to choose healthy foods and exercise. The chants and DVDs are great educational tools. It is amazing to see 29 students engaged for a full ½ hour singing, listening to a story, watching a short clip and then walking away with information they remember and use in daily life. We always refer to The OrganWise Guys when eating a snack or going to lunch. When I told my students it was our last day with “Morgan,” I had some pretty sad faces and lots of questions. I wish I could afford to buy the program for my classroom. After Ms. Deb left, I no longer had the tools to revisit the program. It’s an amazing program…I would recommend this curriculum to any early elementary teacher.
