Labor Day Fun

Labor Day … it’s the last official hurrah of the summer! Here are a few tips to make this one healthy and fun!

  • Harvest your meal. Instead of throwing out burgers and chips, visit a community garden and grill up some of those late summer veggies. Grilled corn on the cob, serve fresh sliced tomatoes, peppers and onions….what could be better! Throw out a few turkey burgers or grilled chicken breasts, whole grain buns and you’ve just transformed the usual cookout into a healthy feast.
  • Get in the water. Take the time to visit a nearby lake, pool, or ocean for one last dip! Sure, you can find places to swim indoors but there’s nothing quite like soaking under the sun!
  • Take time to play. Labor day weekend can often be a time to catch up on outdoor projects around the house before the busy fall weekends set in. If this is what you’re weekend entails, remember to take time to play. Some of my favorite memories from growing up are my dad turning on the garden sprinklers at night and my brothers, sister and I jumping through them or him chasing us with the water hose. He got his yard work done and we made great memories.
  • Stay out late! For most of the country, the evening temperatures have finally made the outdoors bearable. Round up the neighborhood for a game of flashlight tag, enjoy a healthy meal on the back porch or take an evening stroll. There are plenty of cold and rainy evenings on the way to stay indoors
We’d love to hear from you. What fun and healthy plans do you have for the weekend?
