Each month, The OrganWise Guys celebrate the Foods of the Month (FoM) by featuring simple tips on how to increase consumption of these nutrient-dense foods. Share these tips with your families, friends, and colleagues and we encourage you to try them for yourselves!
Be sure to check out these tips on fish, a March FoM!
Tip 1: Celebrate March by eating fish! Eat a variety of seafood high in omega 3 fatty acids and low in mercury (salmon, trout, herring, sardines, etc.).
Tip 2: Grilled, broiled or baked fish are Hardy’s favorites. Use spices, herbs, and extra virgin olive oil to enhance flavor, instead of creamy sauces. Don’t forget a squeeze of lemon!
Tip 3: Get creative with seafood! Try salmon patties, shrimp stir-fry, grilled fish tacos, or clams with whole-wheat pasta. Delicious!
Tip 4: Try a simple salmon dinner, high in omega 3 fatty acids! Cover salmon filets with extra virgin olive oil and bake at 425F for 15 minutes. Serve with a squeeze of lemon juice.
Tip 5: Shop OrganWise! Eating seafood does not have to be expensive. Tilapia, canned tuna and frozen seafood is affordable.
Tip 6: Shellfish is seafood; oysters, mussels, clams, and calamari supply omega 3 fatty acids. Try mussels marinara, oyster stew, or steamed clams for dinner.
Tip 7: To get 8 oz. of seafood each week, use this guide: 1 can of tuna equals 3 to 4 oz., 1 salmon steak equals 4 to 6 oz., and 1 small trout equals 3 oz.
Tip 8: Try fish for lunch! Top salads with scallops, shrimp or crab in place of meat. Use canned tuna or salmon for sandwiches over deli meats.
Tip 9: The OrganWise Guys love fish! Omega 3 fatty acids improve nervous system development for kids. Serve seafood twice a week.
