Michelle Obama Celebrates Let's Move in the ATL

It was such an honor to celebrate the one year anniversary of “Let’s Move” with First Lady Michelle Obama right here in The OrganWise Guys’ hometown of Atlanta, GA. We had an opportunity to celebrate at Northpoint Community Church with 6,000 others.

When you go see the first lady, security is tight!  After waiting for an hour to get through security lines, we were ready for the event to begin.  While waiting for Mrs. Obama to arrive, we got to view some of the fun new PSA’s that are being released and got some great entertainment from talented musicians, including a local glee club and the much-talked aboutiBand.

Mrs. Obama encouraged the audience with all the strides that have been made in the past year saying that we’re making real progress but with 1 in 3 kids still obese in our country, we still have a long way to go.

The first lady spent some time reflecting on her own upbringing – spending time playing outside, not snacking between meals, even sharing a funny story of how her grandmother once opened a can of peas and served each grandchild a portion at a fast food restaurant because she was so committed to feeding her family a healthy meal.

This event emphasized the importance of families being mobilized in the childhood obesity crisis.  Mrs. Obama both encouraged families to take responsibility for their personal choices and to be tenacious in fighting for changes in their schools and community.

We appreciate Mrs. Obama’s leadership in Let’s Move and were honored to be able to celebrate the day with her.
