Stone Fruit Desserts

Stone fruits are an August Foods of the Month. This family of fruits is low in calories and has essential nutrients called phytochemicals that help reduce bad cholesterol. Peaches, nectarines and apricots are especially high in vitamins A and C, which are important antioxidants to keep sickness and disease at bay.

In August, celebrate the Foods of the Month by eating stone fruits like peaches, plums, nectarines and apricots. The OrganWise Guys love to indulge in dessert, made with stone fruits of course! Satisfy your sweet tooth by trying some of our favorite stone fruit desserts:

Apricot Bites – Cut apricots in half and remove the pits, then top with a small dollop of reduced fat cream cheese. Sprinkle with pistachio pieces for a colorful and healthy dessert.

Grilled Peaches with Greek Yogurt – Cut peaches in half and remove the pits, then brush grill or grill plate with extra virgin olive oil. Grill the peaches on medium high heat for about 5 minutes or until the flesh has grill marks. Flip the peaches and grill on the opposite site. Remove them from the grill, then top with non-fat vanilla Greek yogurt and a sprinkle of brown sugar.

Grilled Plum Kabobs with Low-Fat Vanilla Frozen Yogurt – Cut plums in half and remove the pits. Cut each half into three pieces. Put the plum sections on the skewers then sprinkle with a little sugar and cardamon. Use a grill or grill plate to cook the kabobs for about 4 minutes on each side, until tender. Serve with a scoop of low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt.

Sweet Stone Fruit Dessert Pizza – Grill a mixture of your favorite cut up stone fruits (we used peaches, plums and apricots) for the topping of your dessert pizza. Next, roll out whole wheat pizza dough onto a pizza stone or pan and cook at 500 degrees for about 3 minutes until the dough is slightly cooked. Remove from oven, then top with low-fat ricotta cheese and the stone fruits. Put the pizza back in the oven and continue cooking for 15 minutes, or until the cheese begins to bubble and brown. Top with a drizzle of honey and balsamic vinegar.Stone Fruit Pizza
