Stone fruits, an OrganWise Guys Foods of the Month, are a perfect summertime snack. Popular ones include cherries, plums, apricots, nectarines, and peaches.
Here are some interesting stone fruit facts:
- Stone fruits have something in common – there is a pit in the middle of their fruit, which is where the word, “stone” comes from.
- They are full of vitamins and minerals, and high in vitamin C, which keeps our immune systems strong.
- These fruits are convenient, easy to transport, and require little or no preparation once washed.
- Scientists have experimented with stone fruits by combining the seeds of two fruits to get a while new ones, resulting in fruits such as apriums or pluots. Apriums are a cross between apricots and plums with the apricot dominating and pluots are a cross between a plum and an apricot with the plum dominating.
