The Junior Leauge Takes Action in Memphis

he second stop for The OrganWise Guys on their summer adventure was Memphis, TN; home of blues, the King of Rock-n-Roll and of course delicious BBQ! Sadly, Memphis also boasts the title of being one of America’s Most Obese Cities. The Junior League of Memphis (JLM) decided to take action against childhood obesity in their hometown by taking to the streets. On May 7th they hosted a 5K for Kids: Taking Steps to End Childhood Obesity  5KOptionFINAL

With more than 750 participants, race day featured a 5K, a fun-run for kids, live entertainment, and a ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ demonstration to teach children healthy eating habits. Mayor AC Wharton, along with his grandson Andrew, welcomed participants and spoke to them about the importance of teaching children healthy habits at a young age.

The 5K for Kids is one of the many ways JLM works to make a difference in the lives of children and those in need in the Memphis community. If you live in the Memphis area, consider joining them on race day next year  (May 5, 2012)
