What better way to kick off summer than with a bowl of fresh berries? Berries are the ultimate warm weather healthy snack! Most of them are harvested in the summer months, making these fruits widely available during this time. 
 
We know that berries grow in the summer, so how can you enjoy these fruits in non-summer months? You are in luck; berries are fruits that can be enjoyed during ANY month of the year! To enjoy berries year-round, simply pop them in your freezer. Since the texture of berries does not change when frozen, you can substitute fresh berries for frozen ones in recipes, or in your favorite whole-grain cereal. Follow the step-by-step instructions below for freezing berries to enjoy anytime.
 
Step 1 – Wash your berries and let them completely dry by placing them in a single layer on a cookie sheet or towel (they freeze best when fully dried).
 
Step 2 – Place them in a plastic bag or container.
 
Step 3 – Put your container of berries in the back of the freezer.
 
When frozen, berries can last up to one year! Remember to fully thaw frozen berries before eating them. Frozen berries also make great additions to your favorite whole grain pancakes or muffins!
