So Close, But Yet So Far

Hola amigos!

It’s almost May, which means it’s almost summer vacation! This year has gone by muy rapdio (Spanish for “very fast”). We all need to remember that “almost summer vacation” isn’t the same as “summer vacation.” Studying, drinking plenty of water, getting a good night’s sleep, doing your homework, eating healthy, and getting exercise are all still important ways to make sure the school year ends on the right note. Dancing on my Own!

Hola amigos,

From my corazon to your corazon (Spanish for “heart”), I hope you are having a great year, and an awesome American Heart Month. I saw that earlier this month, Luigi was talking about getting your heart rate up by playing games with friends. I am all for that, but you don’t have to be with friends to exercise and have some fun. I like to make up songs and dance around in my room. I just choose a word, like “sky,” and then make up the words as I dance around my room. Using “sky,” I might sing:

Look to the sky, And you’ll find your dreams,
Reach so high, And you will achieve!

Simple, silly, and fun! Best of all, I am revving up my heart beat as I make up my own beat! Don’t forget today’s coloring and activity sheet!

Practice Makes Perfect

PrintHola amigos,

My goal for el año neuvo (Spanish for “the new year”) is to continue to practice athletic skills that are a bit difficult for me. For example, I am not very good at serving the ball in tennis. I can hit a forehand and a backhand, but serving the ball has always given me trouble. So you know what I did? I stopped playing tennis. That’s loco (Spanish for “crazy”)! You shouldn’t just stop playing something because it’s hard for you. The only way to get better is to keep practicing it, so that’s exactly what I plan to do. This year, you can find me practicing my serve, as well as my putting, Frisbee-catching, backstroke-turns, and long-distance running. I’m sure there will be many more skills that I’ll find need attention, or new ones that I realize I will definitely need to practice. If you have any skills that could use some sharpening, you should get up, get outside, and get practicing! After practice get today’s coloring sheet!

What to Wear, What to Wear?

Hola Amigos!

Halloween is quickly approaching, and I have no idea what to wear! In past years, I’ve been a soccer player, a vaquera (Spanish for “cowgirl”), a ballerina, and a stringbean. But this year, I just can’t decide. Should I be a princess, a superstar singer, an Olympic gymnast, a chef? I just don’t know! Can you help me out? Please check out today’s activity sheet and draw a costume that I can wear for Halloween. Thanks for your help!OWG_Blog_Art_10-18-12

Hola amigos!

I found out what the Boosterthon Fun Run is all about! You see, the Boosterthon team comes to our school to put on this fun run to raise money. We raise money bygetting pledges from friends, family, and neighbors for each lap we do. So if my next-door neighbor pledges a quarter a lap, I earn a dollar for our school every four laps! This news is muy fantastico (Spanish for “very fantastic”). Next Monday, we are going to have a pep rally where they tell us everything that will happen with the Boosterthon. I can’t wait! You can bet this weekend, I’ll be sure to get a little running in so I can be ready to make some money for my school when we do the fun run!OWG_Blog_Art_9-13-12
