We love the creative way that Golden Grove Elementary in Palm Beach County, FL used The OrganWise Guys materials AND that the whole school and community partners got involved! Dr. Estibaliz Gastesi shared how an OWG musical show, performed by her students this spring, was inspired by an OWG Assembly. Not only was the entire school so excited for this special show, but students and faculty alike learned about the importance of taking care of their bodies. We spoke with Dr. Gastesi to get some background information on the performance, and how this creative show can be replicated in your own school.

Did you know that July is National Grilling Month? Summer is the best time to have those family barbecues with all of those tasty grilled foods. Cooking food on a grill provides the opportunity for some really great flavors to be cooked into some healthy foods! Here are a few ideas to make your cookout a healthy one:
- Start with a salad – We are not grilling our salad, but we are sharing some ideas for some healthy salad dressings, because what better way to start out your healthy meal than with a bowl full of greens?
- Choose Lean Proteins – Use ground turkey for your burgers, lean chicken breasts (without the skin) or a tasty salmon or tilapia for the main dish! Trim off any visible fat before grilling and encourage smaller servings by grilling meat in smaller portions. For more flavor, brush with a small amount of extra-virgin olive oil, herbs, citrus, and pepper!
- Grill those Veggies – Vegetables taste great on the grill! For a yummy side, load up some colorful peppers, onions, mushrooms, summer squash, and zucchini on a skewer, coat with a little extra-virgin olive oil and sprinkle with some pepper for great taste! Corn on the cob is also very flavorful when cooked on the grill.
- Sweet Tooth – Discover enhanced flavor and sweetness when you consider grilling fruit for your dessert! Pineapple, apples, bananas and peaches are all great options to try on the grill. We have some great tips for grilling peaches here.
Make sure to consider food safety when grilling outdoors! You can click here for some great grilling safety tips compiled by the USDA.

We recently came across this great article that has been circulating entitled What Drowning Really Looks Like. This is a real eye-opener as most people envision drowning involving a lot of splashing, flailing arms, yelling, etc. In actuality, it may be hard to even realize that a person is struggling in the water. Even though it is summer, it is still very important to make sure you are getting in enough servings of dairy each day. You can find out what the daily recommendations are here. Simply drinking milk may not be everyone’s favorite summertime treat, so here are some tasty ideas to get your calcium in during these hot months:
- Low-Fat Frozen Yogurt – Try this instead of regular ice cream as a sweet treat following a healthy dinner!
- Yogurt Parfait – Layer some of your favorite berries and low-fat granola on some low-fat yogurt for a tasty snack.
