Custom-made Costumes

Hello fellow OrganWise Guys Club Members,

It’s a few days until Halloween, and I still need a costume. I don’t know what to do! I guess this is why my parents always say don’t wait until the last minute to get things done. I’ve been doing some thinking of easy costumes I can make this weekend. I could dress in all orange with a green hat and go as a carrot. I also though about dressing as an apple and writing “HI!” on it (“High Fiber”—get it?!). In the end though, I think I’m gonna go with an easy do-it-yourself costume, and dress as a football player. To avoid any confusion, I’m going to tape a picture of a quarter on my back, that way everyone will know I’m a quarterback!! Hope all of you have your costumes ready to go for the big night! In fact, this week’s activity sheet is drawing yourself in your costume! Oh and we have a great coloring sheet for you today too!OWG_Blog_Art_10-27-11

To-may-to, To-mah-to

Hello fellow OrganWise Guys Club members!

One great thing about being back at school is that our school is a member of The OrganWise Guys’ Food of the Month Club! Each month, our school cafeteria highlights two healthy, “nutrient-rich” foods that are OrganWise! The Foods of the Month for September are tomatoes and whole wheat. Here is a super tough OrganWise Guys question for you: Is a tomato a fruit of a vegetable? It’s a fruit! (Technically what makes it a fruit is the fact that it has seeds.) However, most people think of tomatoes as a veggie and that is usually where you find them in the grocery store … with the vegetables. Tomatoes are full of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and calcium, so make sure to add tomatoes to your meals this month (and every month)! Whichever way you think of them, fruit or veggie, I know I will be eating lots of them!

Planting Seeds for Good Health

Hello Fellow OrganWise Guys Club Members,

All this talk about gardening has gotten me very excited AND a little bit hungry! We spoke to Miss Goodhealth about what we are going to plant in our garden. The class decided to start with scrumptious tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, delectable strawberries, crunchy carrots, tasty beets and delicious peppers. Mmmmmm, all those sound so good! Tomorrow we are going to plant the seeds. We have to make sure to carefully plant them in the correct areas, as we don’t want to mix up the seeds and have some crazy fruit-vegetable come about. Could you imagine—strawbeets or pepcumbers?! That would be crazy!

All of this talk about fruits and vegetables makes me want to prepare a salad, so I am off to ingest some healthy food. You should too (your stomach will thank you!). Don’t forget to get the activity sheet and coloring sheet!OWG_Blog_Art_5-19-11

Adventures on the SS Shopping Cart

Ahoy mates!

It’s Captain Pepto and Captain Peri here! We want to tell you of a great adventure we had at our local grocery store. We commanded the SS Shopping Cart through the store in search of delicious, healthy treasures. We were quite successful in the beginning, quickly coming across emerald-green zucchinis and ruby-red apples. We continued the journey in the “Produce Pond,” where we found blueberries, shining like precious gems! And then we spotted the gold! Yes, golden-yellow bananas, ripe, delicious, and ready to eat! But as we were making our way there, our first mate, Kid Kidney, yelled, “Iceberg, dead ahead!” We immediately had to put on the breaks, to avoid a nasty crash. Your two fearless leaders paused to locate the iceberg, but saw nothing. We asked our first mate what iceberg he spoke of, and he laughed to himself and reached for some iceberg lettuce! So once our first mate attained his treasure, we continued our course toward the bananas, sitting on the shelf like bars of gold. Then we headed to the checkout so we could pay and feast on our delicious treats. And feast we did!

So the Pirates of the Carrot Bean are happy and healthy once again! To see more adventures from us, head over to the video section of the website and watch this week’s video!

Breakfast Skipping is a Mistake!

Hello Fellow OrganWise Guys Club Members,

Greetings from Pepto, the stomach! I wanted to tell you all a story from yesterday that I think will be helpful to you. Like all of you, my fellow OrganWise Guys and I are very busy with school these days. So after working really hard on my book report the other night, I decided to give my Sir Rebrum some extra rest and sleep in a little bit longer the following morning. This meant I was short on time and had to skip breakfast. BIG MISTAKE!! Not only was I tired all morning from not eating breakfast, but also my Sir Rebrum was not able to focus either! Then, as we were reading our textbook (with me being the hungry stomach that I am), I let out a HUGE growl. Everyone looked at me—it was so embarrassing! Now, in order to avoid another mishap like that, I plan to get up on time and eat a healthy breakfast every day! My healthy meal of whole grain cereal with low-fat milk, fruit and a glass of calcium-fortified orange juice keeps my brain focused and me growl-free!

Take it from me, guys and gals, a well-rounded breakfast is the best way to start off your day! Click here to download today’s coloring sheet.
